NYFW Recap

Here goes my first NYFW recap of my recent visit during fashion month.  I wanted to take it all in but realistically I couldn’t do all the things I set out to do.I always overwhelm myself with a jam packed schedule because I want attend as much as I can but I realized that it just wasn’t realistic. It’s been a dream of mine to attend NYFW since high school when I became involved in the fashion club. My parents had even planned for me to go in my sophomore year and said I could bring along a close friend in my club but I decided against it because it seemed so overwhelming and I wasn’t ready at the time.Fast forward to 2017 and I was excited to hit the Big Apple and explore everything fashion.  I love New York for everything that it stands for – big lights, big monuments and big dreams! I’m always enamored by the hustle and bustle of the city that never sleeps because everyone there just seem to be in a hurry to get somewhere and get things done.

I had initially planned to attend a day early before the shows started since I had some invites, but I postponed until later in the week because I didn’t want to miss more than a week of school so I could actually enjoy my trip. So I hunkered down and got all of my work done prior to leaving but then we were hit with the impending hurricane Irma and I was worried I wouldn’t make my flight out on Friday.  Especially since so many were being evacuated and we were being told to leave the state ASAP.

Luckily my flight was booked first thing in the morning and was probably the last to leave the airport to New York. Safely in NYC, I was torn because I’ve always wanted to go but now I’m worried about my family that was left back home to weather the storm. We were fortunate to not sustain too much damage from the hurricane (nothing that can’t be fixed) some damaged fencing, trees & my favorite bougainvilleas are all destroyed.😥 but the most precious thing LIFE was my main concern and my loved ones are OK.

Now on to NYFW:

Day 1

When I arrived on Friday I checked in to the beautiful Langham Place hotel and it was right in the heart of the city so when you walked out you were ready to get moving. I had two events that evening. The Samsung X WWD event was fascinating because I love technology and seeing how it incorporates with fashion and how the two work together was interesting.

I then made my way to the amazing Saks party to showcase the newly renovated haute couture 3rd floor. It was full of beautiful clothes, people and neon lights! But the best part was walking the carpet because paparazzi was lined up and tons of people were waiting to see the action and flashing lights. Along the carpet were the famous Saks Fifth Avenue window displays of all the latest designers that I LOVE with live models alongside the mannequins. What a wonderful night and event![show_shopthepost_widget id=”2833020″]

Day 2

I didn’t make the Banana Republic show because after going to the E Fashion Lab, I had to make my way back uptown. I didn’t know what to expect when I got the invite for Phillip Plein happening later on because the invite said “Good Gone Bad” so I could only imagine what that meant and with Future and Nicki Minaj thrown in the mix, I knew it was gonna be a different kind of party.  I was intrigued and it did not disappoint for my first fashion week show. It was definitely entertaining and an experience I won’t soon forget, with everyone from Dita Von Teese to Teyana Taylor to Nicki’s after party performance. One for the books!

Day 3

I spent time doing a little shopping on 5th Avenue and strolling in Central Park (I love it there) and almost went on a carriage ride but didn’t have the time. The hardest thing about fashion week is the overwhelming amount of activities happening all around the city and not being familiar with everything and all the designers with conflicting show times.

So you have to decide, if you have the opportunity, which to attend. I missed out on some great stuff because they were either on the other side of town at the same time or just sheer exhaustion. And by the end of my stay I came down with the worst cold and felt awful so I missed out on some cool photoshoots that I had planned, dinners and shows.

Day 4

Started off the day with Tresemme to get my hair spruced up for a day of shows and I love the soft waves that I got from the wonderful stylist there.  I saw Addition Elle and Hakan Akkaya shows and I’m glad they were in the same location so I didn’t have to run around town that day.  I had another show scheduled that night but had to cancel due to unexpected dinner plans.

Day 5

Spent the day exploring the city and meeting with some agencies to get some face-time in and to see all the new fall products.  I got as much done early in the day because I started to feel even worse and couldn’t make another great party that night.

Day 6

Finally time to get home and face no power, no internet and see all the remnants of hurricane Irma. I enjoyed my time in New York and although many had to extend their stay due to flight cancellations, my flight was only delayed by 2 hours so I was grateful for a safe flight back home but definitely going to miss New York and especially the Langham cookies they brought me every night at turn down. Until next time NYC.
